5 Minute Primers: Using Secondary Data Without Consent & Study Closure

We’re excited to roll out a new format of educational content as short and focused videos designed to address some common points of confusion that we see on our end. Each video aims to keep it as close to 5 minutes as we can and lives on YouTube to make it easy to watch wherever you are.

Our first two videos are:

5 Minute Primer: Using Secondary Data Without Consent

This video explains when secondary data use constitutes human subjects research requiring IRB review and maps out the regulatory pathways available when participant consent isn’t obtained. It addresses exempt category 4ii and waivers of informed consent for non-exempt research.

5 Minute Primer: Study Closure

This video walks researchers through when and how to close an IRB study. It covers the key conditions that trigger closure and breaks down, section-by-section, how to complete the protocol closure form. It also outlines what to expect after submission and what study closure means for the data.

We hope to expand these if they are popular. If you have a topic you would like to see, please let us know by emailing it to [email protected]!
