Capstone Projects and the IRB: When do I need to submit? 9/12/2025 12-1pm EST

The presentation will include overviews of:

• Criteria to determine whether a capstone project meets the definition of human subjects research.
• Steps to verify whether the project requires IRB submission, including use of the Human Subjects Research Determination Form.
• Northeastern IRB submission pathways relevant to capstone projects: Exempt, Expedited, or Full Board review.
• Important administrative requirements: completing required CITI training before submission, and avoiding data collection or recruitment until IRB approval is received.

Goals for the Session:

This session will help guide faculty and students who are completing capstone projects at Northeastern University. Attendees will learn when a project requires IRB review and how to begin that process. Presentation will be kept short to allow for plenty of time for Q&A.
